The Ladakh Mountain Guide Association (LMGA) proudly conducted a three-day Introduction to Rock Climbing Course 2025 for students of Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College, Leh from 28 to 30 October 2025. A total of 55 participants took part in this event, which was designed to introduce the fundamentals of rock climbing and mountaineering safety to eager young adventure enthusiasts.
The course was led by Tsewang Namgyal, Chief Instructor and Vice President of LMGA, who officially welcomed the participants and shared an insightful introduction to climbing gear, safety protocols and the significance of discipline in mountain sports. His guidance set the tone for an engaging and informative experience.

Each day of the course was conducted for a different group of students: on 28 October, 22 participants joined; on 29 October, another 22 participated and on 30 October, 11 fresh students attended. This approach allowed personalized attention and effective learning for all attendees.

The daily training began with a session on gear introduction led by Dorjee Tondup, followed by lessons on knots and hitches taught by Sonam Yangjor. The participants then practiced essential rock climbing techniques, coached closely by Stanzin Norboo and Stanzin Wangyal. These sessions included hands-on training focused on balance, movement, and safety climbing principles.
Supporting Tsewang Namgyal were 11 expert instructors from LMGA including Dorjee Tondup, Sonam Yanjor, Rigzin Angdu, Jigmet Tharchin, Jigmet Stanzin, Stanzin Wangyal, Stanzin Norboo Shara, Stanzin Norboo, Stanzin Lapu, Thupstan Dawa, and Tsewang Gailston. Their combined experience ensured a comprehensive and safe learning environment for every participant.
The course concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, where students expressed their appreciation for the valuable skills imparted during the program. Many participants shared their enthusiasm about pursuing rock climbing further and applying the knowledge gained in future outdoor activities.

This initiative by LMGA, in collaboration with Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, highlights the ongoing commitment to promoting adventure sports, physical fitness, and safety awareness among Ladakh’s youth. The program aims to nurture a responsible and skilled new generation of climbers and mountain enthusiasts in the Himalayan region.
